This module provides an overview of the English Language, Communication and Skills required for first year undergraduate degree course. Students develop proficiency with reading, speaking and writing skills. It also aims to help students learn vocabularies that are assumed unfamiliar to them. The course is not only theoretical, but also comprises practical knowledge in real, day to day instances of both formal and informal communication. It is designed to improve writing and speaking skills of students in English in order to communicate effectively using English language in diverse social and academic settings.


This module provides an overview of academic skills including the development of academic reading, writing, listening and speaking skills sufficient to be able to deal effectively with the demands of a first-year undergraduate study at the Institute. An important distinction is that students enter higher education to learn, not to be taught, and this module is designed to provide students with guidance in the learning process. It introduces study techniques addressing time management, academic reading and writing, note making, academic integrity. In addition, students are introduced to, and will practice, a wide range of skills necessary for successful academic study, such as exam technique, academic literacy, creativity and critical thinking.

This module focuses on the skills needed for success in business. It provides students with opportunities to understand and create a business plan and become aware of the essential communication, problem-solving, decision-making, commercial awareness, and the various other skills needed for succeeding in business. It is also designed to introduce and reinforce essential transferable skills with a focus on personal development, planning and reflective learning.

This module provides an introduction to basic mathematical techniques to ensure that students can deal with arithmetic, algebra, trigonometry, differential and integral calculus to a standard which will support entry to an undergraduate degree programme. In statistics we cover contents such as representation and summary of data, probability, correlation and regression, binomial and normal distribution.

This module introduces students to information technology and theoretical concepts underpinning computer software design; and to programming using a high-level language concentrating on sequence, selection, iteration (loops) and list processing. It will enable the student to use a programming language in a familiar and confident way in a variety of practical situations, and to use an integrated programming development environment competently. Student will develop to design and write simple programs during workshop time, using the programming language concepts.
